Wzzzppp

Its already 5am … I stay up all night to finish Assignment 2 of Webpage Construction class. geeezz, I am not sure that i will make it on time or not.

Anyway, did you watch ‘How To Train Your Dragon” 3d ? I watched it last Thursday with friends. In general, it’s a good movie to go to the theater this month. The story is about Hiccup, the only son of the Viking Chief, Stoick the Vast. The whole story happens on the island of Berk. Hiccup wants to become a dragon slayer as his father but his father dont want him to do so. Hiccup uses his talent in invention to take down a mysterious Night Fury dragon, but he can’t kill that creature. Beside of that, he makes friends with that dragon and name him “Toothless” (lol, he’s cute like a puppy in some scene). Hipcup learns that Berk people have misjudged the species. Dragon species just want to defend themself because Viking hunt them to the end of world. Hiccup and ‘Toothless’ have to solve the conflict between Viking and dragons …

Well, the story seems so simple. I dont rate it very high but it makes sense though. The 3d effect is good and they have many beautiful scene to watch (just little dark because you have to watch with 3d-glasses, i dont get used to it …). And it’s very funny movie with many laugable scenes. Well, I have to say I really enjoy it. But i prefer Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs last year anway.

Now we watched most of 3d animation but truthfully, i like 2d animation than 3d. Why ? ‘casue Im classic type, i guess. ‘n i think the most important thing when you watched a movie is the information, the meaning that the producers try to deliver. I dont blame that 3D animation is boring or meaningless but today people forget 2d animation too fast (except anime, Japanese animation always stick with the classic, 2d). Disney used to be a best company for children entertainment. but i dont think children love White Snow or Cinderella than Hannah Montana. Disney works with Pixar to produce many good 3d animation movie but they can do better with their original movie such as The Princess n The Frog. The latest Disney Princess, Tiana intelligence and determinations that kids should learn than any dreamy and beautiful princess or super star on the stage. It’s brilliant movie that i think Disney can go back to the top.

Well, just my thought and have to get back to the webpage assignment…

\Stop Motion - Living in fantasy world ~

Our group (D.O*) decided to choose Stop Motion for our presentation in week 10. I think everyone know about Stop motion or have watched it already. Disney Channel, yes, they broadcast many films which used Stop Motion technique such as Shaun the Sheep (Aardman Animations). It was created by Nick Park, who won an Oscar for Wallace and Gromit, another Stop Motion animation movie.

So what is Stop Motion ? Stop motion is just an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own (Wikipedia). The movement of object create an illusion that object was moved by its own. People often call it ‘magic’ when you see the teddy bear moving around like living-being, not a toy anymore.

Stop Motion ‘s really interesting technique that you can make every objects around you can moving through continous frame. It’s not only about the objects, you can brainstorm and make everything look fake but still real somehow. I watched many clip was used Stop Motion on Youtube and it never gets me bored. Check Her Morning Elegance, very popular music video used Stop motion :

And T-shirt War :

It could be that complicated because you have to take a loads of photo to represent the movement like the first clip (frame by frame). Wallace and Gromit :The Curse of the Were-Rabbit took 5 year to complete. The quality is perfectly so you cant find the ‘stop time’ between frames.

But with the help of computer technology, you can use gaussian blur to combine frames like this one :

I’m really admire Stop Motion because I think it’s really cool to play with craft and models. We have ‘clay-mation’ to describe stop motion animation which used clay. When i was young, i really enjoyed to play with figure, toy like Lego and i imaged that they were living in that fantasy world. Like comic, we dont need to show the entire action of character to show the audience what really happen in there. We just read the whole page and guess the content…

(to becontinued …)

Favorite Type ?

When I saw the Week 4 Topic, I was wondering what my favorite typeface is …

I learn about Photoshop long time ago… Uhm, not that long but I have to admit that I have used many different kind of typeface (in that time, I used to call them as font, not typeface, lol). Cant not calculate how many typefaces that ive downloaded from some free source sites such as dafont. So I cant figure the typeface that I admire the most honestly.

Then I took a quiz ‘What type are you’. It’s very interesting quiz that Ive seen and my result is Universal Type.

Universal Type is created by Herbert Bayer in 1925. In 1925, Bayer wanted to make an ‘idealist typeface’ which can represent all Bauhaus communiqués. You can notify the special of some letters such as n, m, v. The curve is modified to make it looks modern and attractive than san-seritf type. Dont know if this typeface is represent my personality or not ( some questions I agree with both of answers) but Universal type looks good to me.

But I think it’s not my favorite one because … I dont have that kind of typeface. In DIM1 class, I figure out the important role and the popularity of Helvetica in the world today. It (Helvetica) seems good enough and everybody love it but it doesnt mean that we have to use that typeface forerver and after. Like I said before, I really admire David Carson and Milton Glaser in design world. David Carson, he prefer using different kind of typefaces for his works.

When I look at his works, they give me a strong feeling about his intention of design. Typeface is just a tool that people use that to express the idea. The main objective is deliver the message so you cant blame the typeface somethin’ like “It doesnt look good or its too thin for banner”. As a designer, you have to be a person that make a decision for you design, not typeface decide what you gonna do. I like one of his statements :” Dont mistake legibility for communication”

In conclusion, i think I love … all the typefaces.

Week 2 - Poster review

I think i like this poster design. The idea is very simple but clear and creative. This typography is quite interesting. The text was cut out and arranged to look so different. We can see the shadow of some texts like the lower case n and upper case A. The texts have the same color (white) with the background but with the help of shadow, we can identify the different between these two of element. I dont know the name of typeface which was used for this art but it’s a nice one. I like bold typeface and it makes you feel it’s very powerful and strong. Thus, the author must have the reason to type ‘SANAA’ in upper case and ‘Japan’ in lower case.

Color of this poster is very clean. It only has 2 color : white and black (small text on the lelf hand). I kinda agree with the statement “Simple is the best” and in this poster, it suits perfectly. White makes you feel it’s a pure thing and clear your mind. In the first time i have seen this poster, i feel it’s very attractive with the color of this poster. You dont have to paint a lot of color to your design to draw attention from audience. All you need to do is the idea and the way to show them. This typorgraphy is successful to convince the audience how they look good.

Moreover, the whitespace has an important role in the main stream idea of this typography. They have much space on the top of poster and they support the main idea of this design.

I dont know anything about typography until  I learnt DIM1 Class. Thanks Ric, I learn now Im falling love with Typo right now.

\Week 2 - Working on some projects … ~

Im been working on some individual project and another group project with my friends. One of them is visual graphic design and the group project is video production . Working with group IS NOT my advantage. I always it’s hard to understand and how to communicate well with my team. Like i have an idea but cant expres clearly and they will reject it. Sometime i think im very selfish, untalkative and stubborn. But i really want to work with different kind of people and understand them. It’s hard to find someone that could fit your characteristic especially in work. I mean it’s very important to me to find that one. And moreover, i want to surpass this weaknesses as much as i can.

I somehow like typography and was working on some project. Love to share with you guys in the coming next week ~
